Pop-up birthday cards

Collaborative artwork & giant 3D models

Each art group is preparing a work of art on a large panel to be exhibited during the End of Summer Event on Wednesday 16th September at Southport Villa and Gardens. After discussing together themes and topics, looking at inspiring pictures and talking about various techniques, the children came up with a composition for the painting. They then decided what colours they would like to choose, mixed colours, worked on different areas of the painting collaboratively and planned what will be done during the next lesson, such as collage, printing, embellishing and giving detail.

Collaborative work and group projects not only give the opportunity to children to engage with each other and communicate together, but it also promotes sharing skills, valuing others' opinions and strengths. Further, being engaged together on one project lends itself to more fun!

Here are some shots to give you a sneak a peak!

...working on a composition involving birds and forests

Drawing on circles to use as different-media flowers

...and starting off the true definition of a sun-flower in a surrealist way...

Crafts lessons students also had the opportunity to create something collaboratively on a large scale...this time a large 3D model! After discussion and planning how to make this possible, here are some of our models being erected from scratch by simply using boxes and newspaper....and glue, masking tape and duct tape!

...creating a GIANT ice-cream in a cup! In need of LOTS of crumpled newspaper and magazines....

Starting giving shape to the ice-cream scoops and layering them on top of each other...

Working on the cup....

...complete with a heart-shaped wafer!

...creating a baby Indian elephant!

Giving it a chubby and round texture using crumpled newspaper and a box...

....and creating a replica of Stuart the minion...although it's larger than it's actual size ;) !!
